How to get 5 chicks?

We live in Vermont and would like to order 5 chicks from a hatchery but have no luck so far.
Most of the hatcheries have a minimum order of 25 chicks. Local places will
sell smaller quantities but start supplying them in April which is kind of late for us.
Does anybody know a place that ships 5 chicks? We are willing
to pay extra shipping for padding, heating pillow etc.

mypetchicken.com and natures hatchery both will do small orders....the shipping is high, but it was well worth it to me.

I already contacted My PetChicken.com and they expect their first chicks to hatch on Feb 22nd. They are my Plan B right now.
I will def. contact the other place and ask. Thanks a lot!

I've called them directly, and the "assorted" order CAN be specially arranged with specific breeds, like 2 of this kind, 3 of that kind.....

You may have luck checking your local Granges, feedstores and Craigslist Farm & Garden sections to find locals hatching this time of year.

I bought five mixed breed pullets just yesterday. Best $5 I've spent in months.

Thanks everybody. I am hesitant to order chicks from Texas. This would be such a wide trip to VT for those little chicks. Meyer is an option. VT Craigslist' search result for chicks is really sad...
Will stick with My Petchicken. They seem really nice and CT is not to far away. I also send out an email to friends and co-workers to see if i might get up to 25 chicks so I could order sooner.

The other thing you could do is advertise on Craigslist to see if there are others in your area who want to order chicks. If you can find enough people that you can place the minimum order of 25 chicks, you could split the shipping cost with everyone who goes in on the order.

Just my two cents - I had a great experience both times I ordered from MPC so good luck. I got three in one order and another 4 in the next. Be careful about those cute little artificially colored chicks you see at the feed stores, I hear they are all roosters!
