HOW TO GET A BLUE COCHIN

i have heard you can mate a black rooster cochin with a white hen cochin and get a blue cochin, is this true?? or does anyone know how i could come up with a blue cochin?

Cute and catchy phrase--but mine are as likely to lay under the sage bush, or more likely, to lay under the kids slide :O

White turns OFF the expression of ALL pigment. Breeding black to white is unlikely to result in blue offspring. It is possible, but chances are pretty slim, and if it does happen, it is becauee of the specific set of colour genes the white carries that are hidden (turned OFF) by the white.

The blue gene dilutes black pigment. One copy dilutes the black pigment to blue; two copies dilute further to splash: a lighter blue (or even white) base colour with irregular dark blue splashes throughout the plumage. The blue gene has little affect on red pigment.
