How to get a Broody Anconas laying

The cage is to keep them inside and on something not so comfortable. It sounds bad but it keeps them from wanting to stay and hatch eggs. You don't have to though. Just an idea.

I think people underestimate the cold hardiness of most ducks and ducklings. Even without their mom. I was pretty nervous with my anconas when I first got them. At 2 weeks they went outside overnight at 50 deg+ with no heat. They are 3 weeks old today and have been outside the last 2-3 nights. Temps as low as 37 so far.

I go out in the morning (which is the coldest time frame) and they are happy as can be...splashing around like maniacs...playing. Much warmer than my hands and they are just starting to get their first pin feathers.

Funny thing is... Only issue they had was being afraid of the dark for the first night.

My ducks can take a lot of cold, but -29 in Canada is pretty chilly for them. After -20 I keep an eye on them and they usually go in the heated coop overnight. After -30 my heated water dish has a hard time keeping water thawed haha.

The silly thing is that I do want her to hatch eggs. She just picked a bad time to start lol. It was too cold for the ducks to stay out. She wouldnt leave her nest and the other girls wouldnt leave her. She wouldnt go for the nest in the coop either, other wise I would have just put her eggs there.
