I have a 1 year old Welsh harlequin, any suggestions on tempting her to go broody? I left her some eggs last week on top of what she was laying. She got up to 7- but had no interest in sitting on them. Any ideas?

It depends on the breeds broodiness and age. For example muscovies go broody extremely easily, starting at under a year old for some. While I find mallards of any age aren’t the most broody, although they are a broody breed. Most the time I have 2 ducks sharing a nest.

I’m not sure about Welsh Harlequins but she may be too young to go broody. I’m sure someone can help you with that.

I have a 1 year old Welsh that I am wanting to go broody so bad! She normally lays her eggs wherever, but a few weeks ago she started laying them all together in a dog house with hay in it. I left the eggs alone in hopes she would start sitting. She even got to the point where she quit laying all together. She just recently started laying again in a different spot. 3 weeks later and she still hasn't gone broody. I eventually removed all of the eggs as the were almost a month old. I counted a total of 28 eggs!
