Ty for your reply i think I'll have to get a dog insteadSeparation or head removal will work.
i didn't know that ty!You can still eat the fertile eggs. Chicks will hatch if you incubate the eggs or let the broodies hatch them.
You will need to keep the rooster separate from the flock 24/7 but chickens aren’t healthy being by themselves.
To my knowledge, its a rooster instictual duty to mate and look after the flock. The only way you will get the chicks is if you have a broody hen sit on the eggs or you incubate the eggs (for 21 days). There is no problem with eating fresh fertile eggs.. Otherwise you might want to look for another flock guardian.like a goose... But those can be loud and I don't have much experience with them to say otherwise.
Ty for your replies ill probably have to get a dog lol thanks for the help!!Since the rooster wound need to be with the ladies in order to protect them yet he can’t be with them because he would breed with them, a better option would be to not get the rooster but maybe a guard dog.
I second this.A rooster will breed with the hens. That's his main job in life.
Why do you mind this? Fertile eggs are perfectly edible -- you won't even know the difference.
Eggs will not develop into chicks unless you incubate them either in an incubator or under a broody hen.
A dog is not an automatic solution to the desire for a flock guardian. In fact, any given dog is more likely to kill and eat the chickens than to protect them.
