I just had my first broody hen and she was setting on 4 eggs from our mixed flock. She hatched 2 out of the 4 and they are cute little mutts.

My question is for those of you that use a broody hen to increase your flock, but don't want mutts, how do you get your hands on pure breed eggs at the right time for a broody? I am thinking that the next time this hen goes broody, I will stick as many eggs as I can get my hands on under her and hatch out some fun breeds that I don't currently have.

Use this time to find local sources for the breeds you want so you can easily pick the eggs up when the time comes.
Otherwise, you need to buy through the buying list here or ebay and have them shipped. The shipping jostles them and cuts down the hatch rate.
