how to get humidity up when it won't go up

My cousin wanted me to post this. she is incubating eggs and she told me her humidity won't go up. She already has 2 sponges and she has already filled the bottom with water but the humidity stays at 44%. Could the hygrometer be messed up or should she do something else? Thanks!!

Yep, check that hydrometer first.

If she has the AcuRite with the probe, that probe does NOT measure humidity, only the unit does. She may be measuring her room humidity if she has only the probe in the bator...that is, if she has that one. It's a very common mistake.

That's exactly what I did and wondered why the humidity wouldn't go up. I was cleaning everything up and realized the probe had no holes or opening in it and then a bulb went on in my head (dimly, but it did go on) and I realized I was measuring the humidity of the room the whole time.
