How to get my hens used to me picking them up?

Good for you! LOL... Your chicks are people too! Keep at it... and keep asking those questions. This little "hobby" is very addicting... and you will become very good at it if you wont be afraid to ask! It's something that you will have for the whole of your life! You, my dear, will never be alone or hungry! :thumbsup
yeah my oma and my dad both have a lot of orders for eggs so if they want their eggs he's gonna have to take the plastic out of the yard. lol

OH... and double check the size of your coop. Right now it may be little enough for it and be comfortable... In three months, maybe not. You will need 2 to 3 square ft per chicken of coop space, sometime 3 to 4 ft is better. :) Allowing them to free range will help with run space. 8 to 10 sq ft in the run per bird :) You are doing great!
yeah were trying our best but if we have to build a bigger coop we will but all my birds are going to need a little more space but my silkie won't because she is the tiniest an youngest and wont get that big unlike my Orpingtons lol

And those orpingtons can be...porkers...LOL... They are so fluffy! There are some good plans online or if theres an old building close by, or even are area of an existing building you could wall off... the space needs to be about 4ft x 8ft. Just so you know.

thank you and we might add on to there coop now like maybe take out a wall and make it bigger ya know

Good :) They will be happier in the long run! New Jersey winters are long... and shut up in a too small coop could be trouble.... But, you have a long time before that.
yes and when winter comes I'm hoping they will still at least come out for a bit instead of being locked up in a coop I cant clean until winter is over lol. Im going to clean there coop end of fall so when winter does hit it'll be good

Sounds about right! Maybe put a tarp up on one part of their fenced in area to block some snow and wind... that may help to bring them out .
yeah i have a tarp that i put over the run at night and then when its day time its half way for shade and sun but when it rains I put the tarp all the way cause they cant get wet especially my silkie.
