How to get off to a good start in your new neigbborhood (rant)

Since you do not KNOW that the new neighbors called the complaint in, assume that they did not. Rather than lowering yourself to the level or retaliating against someone who may be innocent, take the high road. If you would normally offer a carton of eggs or a welcome to the neighborhood, do so. If you would not, don't. I looked and could not find the provisions of a noise ordinance. It looks like you are governed by the Benton zoning and ordinances, not those for Salina County if I understand you to live inside city limits. I did not find a noise ordinance for either, nor did I find anything saying the OP could not have her poultry.

If you want to change the way you do things, by all means do so; if you don't, and believe that you are not breaking the noise ordinance then continue as you have been. If the sheriff comes back, ask who complained so that you can talk directly to them about their concerns.

I would take rooster "noise" over blaring "music" out of cars, yelling, screeching brakes anytime.

I know you're p.o'd...I would be too, but don't let them get your goat. Maybe they think that the area will bend to their rules/expectations.....kill 'em with kindness, smile and wave while you cover your mouth with your other hand. But I think it would be a good idea to check your noise ordinances....just to make sure that 6 or even 5 am is legally the earliest time you can run your chainsaw.

Hey guys, enforcement official said "one of the neighbors". He didn't say "the new neighbor". That's just an assumption, and we know what they do to us. I'm sort of amazed at the retaliatory suggestions made by some of the posters. Once again, I sure am glad that I live near the thoughtful, non-spiteful people that reside here. to those who like to "play ugly", Daddy always said never wrestle with pigs. The pig has fun and you get s#&t upon. Mean destroys your soul, and Karma will eventually be executed.

These kind of situations drive me crazy. Several years ago, a fancy-smancy new housing development was built in the area next to a PIG FARM. Within 3 years, the housing association was filling constant nuisance lawsuits because of the "smell". The poor farmer went under because he couldn't fight the deep pockets of people buying $400,000 homes.

My neighboors have a large collection of lambs, alpaca's, etc, and on some summer days when the wind is right....oh my. But it's all cool, we trade lamb and chicken meat, eggs and fresh veggies. It's all cool.

Tala, good luck with this.

Well, unless the others are lying to my face.....
there's only two households that I haven't spoken to, and one of them is a Latino family who don't speak much English - they have lived there for a while now and no complaints.
The new neighbor moves in and within days there are complaints.....I think it's a pretty safe assumption. On this, the odds are in my favor and I'll take the gamble.

I guess it will have to be Tuesday before I can visit the courthouse or somewhere to ask about the noise ordinances. The cop only casually mentioned them, likely he doesn't really even know what they are. lol
I want to get it in writing.

For the officer to come by, there should be a police report. That could be an available public document. Probably worth a check.

Definitely check the noise ordinance to make sure you are right before you do something you might regret.

What I don't understand is when you are morally right and legally right, why do you want to throw that away? What do you gain by giving away your advantages?

This is the type of post I'm talking about.

Then I promptly let the dogs out so they could bark a little this mroning! Mwhahahaha
I think I'll take up a habit of mowing my lawn at 7am, and hey I've still got some logs around here to chop up....maybe I'll go crank up the chainsaw....

Do they have a dog? Call everytime its outside...
Do they have kids?.. complain that they are too noisy...
2 can play the game...
