What’s the most effective way to get rid of mites without burning down the coop?
It’s a small wooden prefab coop which has mites in, I tried spraying it each day with this mite spray my neighbour gave me but think it’s quite cheap and rubbish.
I have chicks waiting to go in the coop but don’t want to move them in until I’m sure the coop is mite free
Luckily no hens havent been anywhere near this coop so they’re all fine.
I’ve got some pictures of the mites but no close ups (they’re sort of black close up, not red) I’ve never had mites before are these northern fowl mites?

You'll want to spray the coop with permethrin. Do any chickens live in it or are near it?
I had a broody Silkie in there and unfortunately it was the mites that killed her, that’s how I found out about them. I didn’t want to disturb her much so never saw them until it was too late. Since then none have been in it or near it.
Thanks for the advice will get some permethrin, does it come in a spray form or powder?

So sorry for your loss. :hugs
Permethrin comes in powder and spray form.
You want to use spray for the coop.

If you cannot easily find permethrin, I'd consider spraying everything down with a strong chlorine bleach solution. Maybe discard the old bedding too.
Yeah I removed the bedding straight away, and hoovered all the little bits I could pick up so it’s all completely gone. If I can’t find permethrin I’ll definitely do that, thanks 🙂

I ordered this spray as it says in contains permethrin and I’ve seen other people in different threads recommend this. Just hoping it works 🤞🏻 might even use it in my main coop next time I clean it just incase even though I couldn’t find any on my hens.

Great!
Also have you treated the chickens?
