How to get rid of ticks. PLEASE HELP!!

So today i looked at my dog and she was rolling around acting crazy. So i went over and checked her out. Sure enough, there was a HUGE blood tick by her nose. I got it off and popped it. Blood spray everywhere, on my clothes, shoes, dog, but the tick was dead. Then i went back to her to comfort her, bc she wanted to scratch like crazy where it was, and i felt another tick by her ears. I peeled it off, and killed that one too. Well, to make a long story short, i have found a total of 8 ticks on her today, and a complete 20 this year.
I don't want her to get infected, and i am really worried about her. She is the best dog ever, and i don't want her sick. Is there anything to do to get rid of ticks? Or at least something to put on the bite to make her feel better?

I've always heard that guineas are very good about eating ticks. You might think about getting a few for prevention. They also act as very good watch animals.

Another option is Merial's new product, Certifect. It is basically Frontline Plus with Amitraz (the active ingredient in the preventic collars) added to it and it should work just as well on the ticks as the preventic collar, plus it should control fleas too which the preventic collar doesn't do. The downside is it's only available through vets right now. It should be pretty comparable in price to the Frontline (the vet I work for sells it for about a dollar more/dose than the frontline for the same size), but if you don't need or want the flea control the preventic collar would be a better dollar value.

I've used Certifect and it smells soooo bad. Like burning plastic or something. It does the job but the smell is unbearable.
