How to get them out of my house...quickly!

I'm just outside Waco. I REALLY wish I had a barn or garage to brood them in. All I have (besides the house) is a small shed with no electricity. Thanks for the advice. I'm sure I will figure it out.

I've run two extension cords to the coop and have the heat lamp clamped inside the coop off one of the 2x4s - so far it's working fine to keep them warm without overheating. The coop was 69F this a.m. and today it is 55F outside and cloudy. If you can run a series of extension cords you could rig up a lamp for them temporarily. My chicks were three weeks old yesterday.

Agree. A long, heavy duty, construction grade extension cord is a necessity for life.

There's a ton of stuff you need one for. Running power to the shed, coop, a camp out, Christmas lighting, work project, etc.

Wait til they have their feathers-usually 5 weeks, sometimes a little later depending on the breed. We just put ours out- with a light and they are 6 weeks, but the one roo doesn't have as many feathers as the rest yet.

My hubby works construction. We have extension cords coming out our ears. Lol

Just make sure you don't just clamp the lamp. Fasten it with a chain and hooks at two different points, I used two separate chains and 4 hooks, just to have a failsafe option. You don't want a fire, and a heatlamp is fine as long as you practice multiple safety options.

What I have learned in my experience is to let them have the light the first week but dont let them have it too long. Believe me I have 4 fully feathered chickens who think they can't without the light!!
