How to Grow a Blueberry Bush

Quote: Yeah, this one lost that ability. But it seems to have recovered nicely, I propped it back towards the wall (for some reason these "little" cherry tomatoes bushes are at the moment 6 and 7 feet tall, respectively, and need a bit of support). I've been keeping them watered, but today surprised me. The strong wind coupled with the heat and direct sunlight mad it evaporate really quickly.

We had a rare thing here in the Sacramento Valley of California--we had a bit of rain. It was barely measurable but since we normally do not get any measurable rain in the summer or dry season, it is very nice.

Hopefully the lightening did not start too many fires.

Quote: Nice that you're getting some rain. Drought is a nasty thing. We're experiencing a exceptionally warm and dry summer, nothing comparable to your conditions, but rain amounts for Southern Finland are about 20% of the usual amount this summer. I think we've had less than 10mm during the past month here where I live, even less than other places nearby. All the rains seem to have missed us.

@ronott1 Care to venture another guess on my paprika/chili? At the moment it has about 30 fruits growing. Here's the biggest one, it's almost an inch in diameter.

I'm thinking Ciliegia Piccante.

Anybody have pictures of their raised blueberry beds yet? I need some ideas for my set up, debating on buying 10 more blueberry bushes this fall or next spring. The 2 bushes I have now did ok to give my 2 kids a snack, but not enough to be put away for later. My MIL uses 2 1/2 cups a week more her smoothies and I would like to give her some, if not all the berries that she needs, but I think I would need more bushes for her usage as well wouldn't I? My main goal for my bushes is to get enough to can some up for muffins so maybe 20 1/2 pints, and freeze a bunch for smoothies for the kids, since one is starting school next week I need quick breakfast ideas. I need them in containers for the apartment I am in now and I am running out of patio space for all of them with my raised beds and other potted plants I have going; but when I buy a house next spring I plan on doing a raised bed or 4 for them all.

If your blueberries are anything like ours, they tend to prefer slightly acidic soil. So plant them in a place where pines grow. I don't have any experience with the bush variety though, here they just grow naturally in every forest.
