how to grow fodder for chickens and rabbits.

I seriously cannot have a bunny. We have three cats and occasionally one of them will bring in a wildbuny. I'd have to keep it outside in a cage, which I think is just not right ... it's the same reason I don't have cage birds like parakeets any more. Birds gotta fly, buns gotta hop. But they so PRETTY! I'll have scads of 'em in heaven! I won't have to worry about the cats wanting to eat them!

I have three dogs and I am trying to get them use to the bunny so she can come live inside but my rabbit is such a diva I think once she gets inside she will boss my dogs around I totally get what your saying, I hate it when animals are caged up, while.my rabbit is outside she gets hours of play time in her playpen and gets to come in and spend some time with the dogs. If I had more room I would get her a friend lol, it's hard not too

Years ago, I ran a greenhouse. We had a resident cat, Elsie, a calico spayed female. A staff member had to rehome her female rabbit. I’m a softie so it came to live in a hutch in the barn. It got to the point where we’d let her out often to roam the inside of the barn and the attached greenhouse. Pretty sweet life for a bunny, I thought. She developed a crazy obsession with Elsie and would chase her all over, mounting her if it could catch her. Eventually the staff person had to find another home for the bunny, because she was tearing the cat’s neck up. It seemed like really odd behavior to me, with the tables turned for sure, but I don’t know rabbit behavior at all.

My daughter and her boyfriend had a rabbit (this was when she was young) and they sincerely believed their bun was litter box trained because the rabbit did go in the box. What they didn’t know was how often rabbits really go and the bunny’s alternative litter box was inside their sofa!!! She made a hole in the fabric in the back and made many more deposits there than in her litter Box!

I think this is one of the reasons it’s wonderful for young people to be able to live away from home. It’s a true learning experience. Luckily when they figured it out they were able to rehome the bunny to a more bunny knowledgeable farm friend.

Well .... if I ever do get a rabbit, i think I would get two females, and i would not keep them in tiny pens. I'm researching vermiculture so I could definitely use the bunny poo for that ... all this is entirely speculative at this point, of course. Lots to learn and research for now!

Yes a lot of research is always good before getting a new pet.. let me know if you end up getting a rabbit sorry its kinda my fault for giving you the idea

Oh, you can't imagine how life is conspiring against me right now! We have three cats we love dearly, spayed females and one (my special pet, of course!) has suddenly decided to contest the oldest for dominance and i'm having to deal with territorial "marking." Yes, I know she can't REALLY, but .... she IS. Anyway, yesterday my DSIL shot me pic of a stray that has suddenly showed up at her place asking me do I want HER and do I think she might have some Siamese in her, lol. My responses, NO!!!! And, YES!!!! And ... if I wasn't already full up I would take her IN A HEARTBEAT!!! Gaaaah!!!!

Lol I know how you fill, I have chickens one rabbit and three dogs and they are all loved very much! A other pet I would love to have is a goat lol but if im gonna get a goat I want to have a lot more land a d my chickens pretty much dominate there yard lol by the way that cat is adorable

You gals are hilarious! And here I thought we'd be talking about chicken fodder! I'm interested in growing fodder, but I'm just starting a garden this year, so no large-scale fodder yet. I am growing extra peas; I'm sure they will like them, and I'll bet they'll happily eat the whole plant. Peas are easy to grow. And I grow comfrey plants, which they love and can't kill! Not the kind of comfrey that reseeds, but the kind grown from root cuttings. I like the plant, but I don't want thousands of them.

Thanks for commenting, where do you get the pea seeds for fodder? are they at tractor supple.

I would look at the feed store. I know TSC carries seeds for the garden, but I’m not sure about seeds for feed. I just planted garden peas, though. I only have 4 birds.

Do a search on “fodder” here and see what comes up?
