Hello,
In Michigan we have had a LOT of rain this year, and with that said, a LOT of standing water on the properties which neighbor my back yard. As the temperatures begin to warm-up I have had a HUGE problem with mosquitoes as they have had a wonderful year to reproduce. When I walk through my yard I have thousands of them pop out of the grass and start to buzz around.
I was wondering if anyone knew of a way to handle this problem as I don't want to put my chickens at risk (e.g., from chemicals).
To give a description of my setup, I have all eight of my hens located in a small run attached to their coop. My flock is limited to this area only and don't have access to my yard at any time. Overall, our front yard is roughly .3 acres and our backyard (where the hens are located) is another .6 acres which back into some deep/thick woods.
Since the front yard is isolated from the backyard I have considered treating this area with a yard spray chemical but I'm not sure what to do with the backyard.
Any Ideas...
