How to help a Splayed Leg chick?

Keep her on newspaper. It will help her get a good footing.

Nutrition has been key in my attempts to heal a splayed legged chick.

Vitamins in the water and lots of handfeeding helps a lot. You can
crumble chick starter into yogurt. It makes it easier to feed.

The more nutrition you get into the bird the better her chances.

I so agree with purple on this. It's just as important to make sure you cover the "why" of this happening as well as the "how" to fix it.

Be sure the baby is on an age-appropriate feed - very important especially for developing bones. If the splay-leggedness was because of slick footing conditions, you shouldn't have to worry too much about extra nutrition but it sure does help! It doesn't help if you use the products as labeled. This might be good for all your babies. The yogurt certainly is, and helps a little with calcium absorbtion.

Also, rule out rubbery-legs. If the legs feel solid just splayed, give the vitamins, make sure the food is right, and give her time to redevelop her muscles into the straight position.

The best thing I've ever found for chick footing is the rubberized shelf lining - the stuff that is filled with holes. The chicks can walk like mad on it, put newspaper under it to absorb spills, they can eat on it, and you can bleach and dry it to use for your next babies (or use trifectant or oxine). It's brilliant! I'm using it right now in my tub for my tub-turkey, it's that great a footing.

You won't have splay legs on it unless you have a hatch-condition or nutritional problem, never slickness.

Just remove it after three days when they have the land-legs and use bedding.

I'd recommend it for this baby, though - and his buddies.
