How to help my stubborn drake heal

He's actually doing great this morning. For the first time since he got 'bad', he limped up to the food and water up front and ate and drank. He even chased some chickens away. He's still limping but he didn't lose his balance standing at the water.

On a side note, I did some research on the glucosamine and saw it could be used in cats. I have a 15 year old arthritic cat whom I was told could not get medication for except for really expensive stuff by the vet. I've been adding crushed glucosamine to his food once a day and today he's starting to run around and isn't even limping. I honestly can't believe my vet wouldn't mention such things, but maybe they didn't know about it existing... well, I'd like to think that but I know not everyone is as interested in the well being of the animal as the money.

Opie is tired today. Yesterday they went in very early because I was going out and I'm worried about raccoon after finding a dead one on our road. He was moving alright today, flapping around and drinking. When I went to put cream on his knees he stood up and limped to the coop. I opened the door and he went in. When he molts he refuses to use the ramp (repeated behavior over years, it's strange) and tries to fly up the stairs while standing UNDER the ramp. He's a derp, honestly.

He ate and then went and lied down. The ducks came running a couple minutes later and then they went in.

His poop looks good. His eye has been getting better as the days progress. Hopefully he's tired because he's healing and not because something bad is going on, but he eats and drinks and limps around wherever he wants.

He is 4. Had to do some investigative work into my post history. I couldn't remember when we hatched them!

Opie seems to be a good duck name. His mother's name was Oprah (pure cayuga) so that's where he got his name.

I'm glad they went in early, we just had a hawk/other predatory bird hanging around. It didn't seem interested in the adults, and was clearly waiting for our chicks, but if it decided to go for him he would've been an easy target.

He's been gradually improving. He doesn't seem to have interest in mating which I think is bugging the girls... every time I put him in the pool for pool time the hens try to mount him (and each other). Once they calm down he goes back in and swims peacefully.

I've stopped the pain cream to judge how he's doing and he's still moving around. He's still being a derp and falls down the stairs out of the coop every day instead of going down the ramp (grrrr!!) but he's been doing that for 4 years.

Okay... Opie has a minor prolapse. I just noticed it today when I brought him in for pool time. I did not notice it this morning. He had pooped and then I saw a little bit of he twinky sticking out. It did not go back in. He was swimming for awhile and then got out.

The color is normal and it didn't appear to be dirty or injured. He doesn't seem to notice.

What should I do? Should I try to gently push it back inside? Or bring him to the pool frequently to keep it clean? I've seen mixed options when looking this up. It's a very small section that is prolapsed right now.

I haven't seen him mate in over a week. He showed no interest in it at all, even with the hens stacked three high 'mating' right next to him. :x

I believe it must have popped out a bit while he pooped. He's lying down right now.
