I live in Idaho, outside Boise, and currently have about 35 chickens, which I allow them to free range, Last year my son and I tried our hands at raising turkeys, which didn't pan out all that well. At the time, we didn't know squat about them.
After some digging, I found out about this " Blackhead" disease. I had no idea that chickens carry this and it would kill my turkeys. Now, I'm ready to try again. Were putting up a pen to keep every one away from each other. my question is a two parter. First, how do I treat my chickens to keep it from spreading. Second, my new turkey pen will be built in an area where my chickens have roamed and messed on the ground. Can I use " Hydrated Lime " to treat the ground to kill and parasite that might be in it. The turkeys will be locked up in a shed with heat lamps and food and water. Is there anything I can put in their water to help them fight off this bug. The shed they will be in is large enough to house them for a good spell. I'm going to raise them for meat. Thanks for any and all help on this matter.

Ya, but not all at once. It took about a 1 1/2 weeks for them to die. They all seamed alright. they had all the feed and water they needed. The problem might have been that we put them in the same room we had raised the chicks in. We did clean the room out and put new wood shaving in. I don't know if the chicks had this " Blackhead " then or if they somehow contracted it later.
