how to ID chicks

I just got my order today from the hatchery and I have 7 chicks that I hatched here. I want to run all the chicks together but I would like to do something so I can ID the 7 chicks I aready had. Any ideals? I thought about putting a wire or bread tie on their feet and leaving it loose but what do you all think or do. Thanks

very small zip ties work.... you can also paint their heads...... just dont use red it could encourage picking.

I've used small strips of colored vet wrap before. It's soft and stretchy, so you a little bit of "give" as they grow (though you still have to remove it/re-do it after awhile). It is self-adhesive, so no sticky stuff on their legs, but it holds together pretty well. And it comes in lots of colors. You can find it at most feed stores or tack shops, or something similiar to it anyway.

You could try a little spot of nail polish on their heads!
