How to identify quail chicks

I have 3 batches of coturnix eggs in the incubator from different groups. I’ll separate them in the incubator at hatch time but how can I “mark” them so I know who are who in the brooder. Thank you!

A dab of food colouring on their head? You may have to re-apply as they begin to shed their fluff. Then, when they are a bit older, leg rings....you can get them for pigeons, they may be a better fit. I don't know how small chicken rings go but it's worth the research if you need to tell the groups apart.

It is....but even very young chicks still preen, whereas they can't reach the top of their heads xx

Just don't use red food coloring.

Haha, no never red! Hoping green and blue will be less tempting.
