As the title says!

I’m getting 3 Welsh harlequin females.i plan to monitor their weight and such, and as so keeping their identified from the other is very Important

I know they make small small bands, but I couldn’t find any of sizes I felt were reliable for cheap enough- or without buying way more than I needed! So, I ask, how can I identify them at home? String on the feet? What ideas do you have? Of course, there won’t be anything pink or red on them.

TYIA/thank you in advance

It is very important when putting things on their feet especially when they’re little is that you make sure it’s not to tight and your checking them very day. Depending on what you use you’ll need more or less space to get it off. If you use something that clips together and unclips then you’ll need less space to take it off compared to something like zip ties where you need enough space to fit a pair of scissors in it. I would recommend getting a pair of smaller scissors or ones with a point end if you decide to use the zip ties. Good luck with your ducklings 😊

Welcome to BYC. I use colored zip-ties on mine.

Yeah, this is why id like to avoid zip ties! I have a few things i could do (rubber bands, string, etc) but I’m just not sure what’s safe. Are they prone to chewing stuff off? I plan to get clip on/off leg bands for when they stop doubling in size 😂! So don’t stress!

If you get different coloured tapes you can put that around they’re legs. You’ll have to change it every few days but it’s easy to get on and off and doesn’t require scissors or anything like that. As long as the tape isn’t glittery or anything like that’s it’s safe to put on them. The thing with string is they’ll likely pull on the ends and try to eat it. If you use tape the will probably peck at it but will not be able to get it off, unless it’s really lose.

For the chickens I used a tiny piece of colored pipe cleaner and wrapped it around. It stayed on for well over a year and one day just wasn’t there anymore 🤷🏽‍♀️That could work or even better wrap comes in different colors. Good luck!
