How to Keep Flies Out of the Chicken Coop

I have a fly trap hanging in the nectarine tree outside the run and I don't have flies in the coop or run. I clean the coop daily (I have a tiny flock and a tiny coop) and clean the run weekly. I'm sure that helps, but even the watermelon rinds don't draw flies. I'm kind of surprised, because we still have a problem with flies coming into the house. It doesn't help that we have three dogs. Maybe that's the secret to a fly-free chicken run - a bigger draw for them on your lawn. We pick up dog poo daily too, but with three of them, there's always some we miss.

I put up a Rescue Disposable Fly Trap that I got at Wal-Mart and it works super well. For under $5 dollars, this thing must of caught a few thousand fly within the two weeks that I had it hung up about 10 feet away from my Chicken Coop. If youre Chicken Coop is tall enough, I don't see why I wouldn't put on up on the outside or inside of the Chicken Coop.

I too had some fly and hated them. So this was the first product I bought and it will be my only one.

It does have a weird odor for the first 3 days and then you won't notice it anymore.

I'd imagine it's just fine. One of mine ate a rubber band the other week thinking it was a worm likely. No issues. I ate a fly riding my motorcycle once and I survived

I wanted to add my two cents to this old post. As I was searching for ways to get rid of flies (clean up after poop, clean up any treats ASAP, hanging vanilla air freshners...etc) I inadvertently found that putting a box fan upagainst the run in some fashion GREATLY reduces flies! I live in SC and it has been horribly hot, so I bought a big box fan ($20 on amazon) to help keep the girls cool. A bonus I found is that there are considerably less flies than ever before! If you have the ability to do so, I'd give that a try!
