I have been rasining chickens for a few years and thought I'd give tips

First thing you should be sure of is your space.Chickens like enough space to where, they can all eat together, they can flap their wings, and do any other important chicken things(lay eggs).

My Run: Shade.Shade is very important. This is good for both ducks AND chickens.

All time feeding.Birds like to eat,a bunch.Giving your birds the option to have food whenever they feel, keeps them REAL happy.

Space to feed.Gutters from houses make GREAT feeding troughs. It also is long and gives them space when eating.

Roost.Outdoor and inside roosts are good for the birds. They preen, and sleep on them.

random rocks.Chickens, and both ducks enjoy sitting on a rock in the sun.
I also suggest spreading mulch (Or wood shaving),around the run, ducks and chickens would rather that then a bunch mud.I should also say, clean water. They also should ALWAYS have access to water.

All great tips! Thanks for sharing. Mine are happy because they get to roam during the day, and are locked up safely at night. The treats don't go amiss either. Once I let them out in the morning, they follow me to the house, noisily asking for treats!

If you don't have natural shade, a pallet up on blocks works well, I take a second pallet and lean it against the one up on block on the west side, and that increases the shade. I too have roosts in the run, and I find my birds on them quite often, especially in the early morning and late afternoon.

I use old hay in the bottom of my coop, in their nests and out in the run. Later I used the soiled hay as mulch in my garden.
