How to keep my chickens from getting over fence.

I have a huge backyard and my chickens run free all day and I put them in the coop at night. One day I noticed a chicken in my neighbors yard I had to rescue. So someone suggested clipping one of their wings. I did that and yesterday one was back in the neighbors yard. What else can I do? They have a rat terrier mix that would love to get his mouth on my chickens. He can't get in my yard but I am scared about my chickens getting in his.

How tall is the fence? If you clipped them correctly and the fence isn't too short, your bird shouldn't have been able to make it over. Did you do the clipping similar to the manner shown in this link?

Yes, that is how we clipped them. Where I think they get over is in the corner where the privacy and chain link meet. If a loud car comes by it scares them and that is when it happens. The chain link is a little shorter there in the corner.

The fence is a regular chain link height. But I do think it is a little shorter in that corner. What height should they not be able to get over if I clipped their wings?
