How to keep rooster from crowing??

I recently order chicks to be raised in my backyard. I have two neighbors within 100yds of the coop. I ordered one male in the batch and am hoping the neighbors will be okay with the eventual crowing. But if he gets vocal at 2am he will have to go. I've heard of someone putting a collar on a rooster to stop it from crowing. Any advice?

Most roosters are asleep at 2 am. More than likely he won’t crow that often at night unless something wakes him up. Collars choke them. If you can’t have a rooster because of the noise than imo it’s best not to have a rooster.

Thanks for the info about the collar. We had free roaming chickens on our farm growing up, but they didn't even have a coop. The nested inside the barn area and roosted in a big pear tree. Roosters were crowing several times during the night. Never bothered me, but I am concerned about the neighbors now. If they complain I have someone I can give him to that already has roosters

No crow collar... look up the reveiws. Some people like it, some say it isn't effective enough.
I live dead centre of my city... 2 roosters. 1 makes me cringe a little, the other has a weird short, 2 tone crow that really can't be heard. I think it depends on your crow and your neighbours.

There are several factors involved, but 1 rooster about 100 yards away should not be a significant problem. 1. IF your neighbors use A/C during the summer, so their windows are closed, that helps a lot. 2. Depending on your coop design, some of the sound might be able to be baffled/muffled/diffused enough so that the crowing is not overly loud for the neighbors. 3. IF it's not overly loud, many neighbors that hate it at first, get used to it over time, and within a few months, hardly even notice it.

I have a neighbor that can barely hear the crowing, so was not bothered by the noise, however, their dog would bark every time my roosters crowed. They had to teach their dog not to bark when the roosters crowed. After awhile, even the dog got used to it, so it's not been a lasting problem.
