Someone might love that cat. Before doing something as drastic as SSS I would find the owner (if there is one) and tell them that cats and dogs have been disappearing in the area and that they should keep the cat in. If they don't then they don't care and there you go. I'd give them a chance to keep it in before disappearing it. I agree that people should control their animals. I never let my cats go out and about to harass people but if my kitty did escape I'd be crushed if anyone killed him without even giving me a chance to do right. I'd get revenge too. Bad revenge!

Hi again Moochie.

I know you are limited on what you are allowed to do and this is a tough situation. Cats are smart and will have no trouble getting into the pen you described. If you can locate the weak areas, you MIGHT be able to deter the cat. I remember my grandfather used to tie pie pans (the cheap aluminum ones) together with string. Just poke a hole in them with an ice pick or screwdriver and put the string through it. Hang several at slightly different heights so they bang together when the wind blows or something bumps them. Put them anywhere you think the cat could get in, cats don't like sudden noises. Loud wind chimes may work too. This is not a great solution but could buy you some time while you find the owner or your parents come up with something better.

Fellow BCYers, please be careful of the advice you give. Moochie is a child and her mother has been very clear about her not being allowed to SSS or harm anything.

I'm not picking on you Moochie but the others may think they are talking to an adult. I don't want you to get in trouble. Good luck and I hope your chicken are ok.

I'm not a child... Anyways my dad is definately gonna SSS, my mom is probably gonna do whatever idk, as for me: I wanna find the owner of it, but my mom doesn't want me talking to the neighbors. She doesn't want any trouble ever since these neighbors that tried to run me over with their car a very long time ago.
So it's really up to me. My mom is a worry wort and my dad has a rifle and a sling shot with metal balls. I think catching it and taking it to animal control would be good. The people who own the cat shouldn't be letting it out during the evening or night.
What happens if the cat goes to the animal control office? Put it in the county animal shelter? If so perhaps it will find a home with owners who won't let it out.
Back to my question, how do I keep it away? Is there anything I can spray around the fence or something? Bruno would bark all night if we kept him as a watch dog in the front.

the SSS only works if you do not post it on the internet most put it backwards it should be shut up shoot shovel. The best thing to do with a domestic cat is cage trap it and then completely soak it with a garden hose then spray a little skunk musk on it to make the owner keep it up, the garden hose is a lesson in behavioral modification the skunk musk kina is as well.

My hubby got me a little kitten last spring. Well, the sweet little devil took a liking to my chickens. She would climb the run fence and go in to the coop through the pop door. Scare the bejeezus out of the flock. Again and again she would be in the coop tormenting the chickens. No amount of hosing detered her. A few months of this nonsense and I had to rehome her.

Being the animal lover I am, I say humanely trap her and then hose her right down, then release her at the end of the block. OR trap her and take her to a shelter. But keep in mind she may not be rehomed.

I didn't realize that Moochie was underage. But I still say "SSS"....but use a paintball gun. Might get the owner of the cat, assuming there is one, to start asking questions around the neighborhood. THEN Moochie can tell the owner what their loose cat is doing to the birds.

With that said, I will tell you from experience, that if a cat is used to being outdoors, it will NOT stay indoors. That is how I got my cat. It tried to escape every time my mother opened the front door and she wasn't able to catch it every time. So it came to my house where it can come and go, at will. It is much happier here.

Which leaves the only other alternative. Predator proof the chicken's enclosure. Which is far more legal than shooting a "pet" and pays bigger dividends in the end.

Most likely the cat will be put to sleep if animal control takes it. Yes. It will go into an overpopulated shelter and after its holding time is up it will be put down. If your neighbors tried to run you over than your best bet in my opinion is to just let your father take care of the cat however he wants to do it, toss it in the trash, and take that thing to the dump or trap and take to the pound. Don't get caught either way.

Now it knows where there is food, it will be back and eventually it will be successful. So SSS.

This really makes no sense, as calico is not a breed, but a color pattern. I'd get a new vet.
