I got a coon last night.Must have been the huge marshmallows in the trap that drew him in.I hadn't caught anything for days,and figured there were no more. Wow, 50 pounds! Mine was small and yet sooooo heavy.

If you know what time it comes at night why not just sit out with a spotlight with a red lens and shoot it. Use something like a .22 and no one will hear it.

If you don't want to shoot it i know a professional trapper who swears by sardines for catching coons.

use eggs , no worry about catching cats, only coons ,possum ,or skunks, live traps come in coon size , dont have to replacve bait, the eggs can stay for days.

I promise it is not 50 pounds. 30 is a very large coon. And I have seen very few that big. Most are less than 20.

It will shrink a lot once it can be weighed, sort of how fish do when they get near a scale
