When our cockerel was suffering, we put him in a black and yellow Home Depot tote with the lid clicked shut so it was airtight. It didn't take long before he had passed. Edited to add: By the time we got to this point, he was already laying on his side with a dark purple comb and halfway gone so it seemed the best way for him to go.

I’m trying to paste a website but can’t figure out how. There’s a baking soda method that is virtually painless and it puts the chick to sleep then it does a minute later. Most large hatcheries use gas to kill unwanted chicks.

I have little ziplock bag, so can be sealed shut. Do I wrap chickie up and seal in bag then put in freezer? No pain for chickie?

The quickest and most painless way would be decapitation.

Suffocation (baking soda, gasses, etc) is never humane. To make it humane, you would need CO2 and a proper regulator.

Hold your breath. Wait until your lungs are screaming for air. Now imagine not being able to inhale again. Absolutely not humane.

Ah, ok, no bag then. How do I pull head from body then?- like broomstick method but in my hand. If I just hold head in one hand, and body in other hand and pull will that be painless?
