How to kill male chicks

Nice message twentynine. You seem to sell them very cheap i am in the uk and prices seem better as i can sell day old chick for £8. The idea was that if i can say that they are female i will be able to sell them for more and hopefully create more interest in them amongst pet owners who may just want a few hens roaming in the back garden. As you said though twentynine if 50% are male then the price of female would have to at least double to make it worth while which is unrealistic. Another reason why i wanted to get rid of the males is that they cost a lot more in food as they eat more. I'm paying £140 for 500kg which may be cheap however i don't wish to waste it by feeding the males.

I think if i got the gassing set up right it would work for large number of birds. I can't see myself sitting down with a pair of shears doing them one by one. From everything said however, i am looking for a different way but one hasn't yet been suggested that is suited to myself and where i live in the remote country in the UK.

I have culled young quail, about the size of day old chicks.. I would take two fingers and place them around the base of the chicks skull and quickly pull the body with my other hand.. Severing the head from the neck.

As for people who may be interested in your birds.. In your area is ferreting popular? The people who own ferrets could use them as food. That I'd what I used my cull quail for

no i don't think many people have ferrets. There are a couple of pet shops which i am thinking to sell to.

If you don't want them and can't give them to some one and need to kill them just do it in a quick manner. Either break their neck or chop its head off.

I had some mushy chicks hatch but I did not think it was my place to kill them and play God. If you are remote free range them. Let them eat whatever in the yard and give them water. When fall hits you can send then to Camp freezer

This is what make us so diverse as a country..Thank God you don't have the poultry nazi poliza or P.E.T.A. paying attention to this thread..Because if you did ..They would be on your door step tomarrow...wanting answers...HAHAHHA ...Don't you just love the world we live in today....

I think your question is in the wrong forum. This forum is for Raising Baby Chicks. Perhaps questions would be best answered in meat chickens. While i do agree with raising chickens for meat, there is something fundamentally wrong with having discussions about "How to Kill Male Chicks",some of these ideas are just inhumane, freezing alive, bashing their heads in,cutting their heads off with scissors etc. In order to avoid having to kill your chicks, why don't you order sexed chicks? I have baby roos, and the thought of just killing and throwing them in the garbage is disgusting. I care about my animals they are not disposable,I will rehome mine. Can you not allow them to grow and use them as meat birds?

im just sitting here watching all these people who cull chicks making me depressed .3. i do wish PETA was here..
