How to pick a light colored EE?

One store near me will get aracaunas next friday. (could me americaunas even though she said aracaunas.) but, I notice there is a lot of color variation. My neighbor had some buff colored ones that were SOOO pretty! How do I pick the chicks that will be that color? is it evident as chicks, as in... will the chicks be buff colored and some darker? or is there more science to it than that? LOL

Nope, not alot of science on this one.

Will more in likely be a buff or they will sometimes be even more of a yellow No science involved if it looks buff colored or lighter it will more in likely be buff.

Sheeshshe I'm so glad you asked this question. We've had four EE's so far, and all have looked alike as chicks, sadly only one made it to adulthood, and it turned out to be a roo.

We'll be getting three more on Monday(along with three golden comets), from the local feed store, and the last batch they had were of various colors. I'll have to get busy doing my research, so I can try to get the colors I want.

thanks! well I found someone who has them that she is selling, 3 days old she said. I'm going TOMORROW! YEAH! I hope she has variety. she saidthey all pretty much looked the same but some were a bit lighter.

Yes the EE chicks vary in color. The first time I got them I just randomly grabbed 4 of them. One turned out to be very dark and the other three were somewhat dark and all look similar.

The second time I got EE chicks I spent time looking at them closely at various feed stores. The majority of them looked similar but I noticed a few were either darker or lighter. Then I found one feed store with a batch of them that that were very light colored. They had the chipmonk stripe but some were almost white and others were a very pale yellow. These looked very interesting and I bought two of them. One grew up to be white and gray with VERY soft feathers (very odd). Unfortunately this one passed away at about 1 year from an unknown cause. The second one to have coloring very similar to a Salmon Faverolle. I really like the coloring of these two birds.

I will be getting about 20 chicks in exactly 2 weeks from today at local feed stores. 3 or 4 will be EE's and I will be looking specifically for very light colored chicks. I am willing to drive around to several feed stores and willing to look for them for a up to a couple of weeks. I will only get regular colored ones if I can't find light ones after a couple of weeks.

Hi,
I have several EE's...I have one that is just beautiful and has been named Marshmallow by the kids because she looks like a toasted one !! She was very light as a chick. Any of the lighter chicks I have gotten have turned out lighter colored.
There are a couple pics of her in my default album. She has a pea comb and green legs, no beard....

Ours 3 EEs are 5 weeks, I have pics of them at a few days and at 4 weeks...our lightest one, Ginger, fooled me into thinking we were sent the wrong breed but she's got the green feet and looks like she'll be a buff colored EE. The other two fooled me, I would have thought that the lighter chipmunk colored chick Honey Bunny would have been the lighter pullet but she's much darker than Millie who was darker as a chick.

well, she gave me the lightest that she had, but I don't think they are what I was looking for I think they're going to be dark since they have dark all on their back :*(
