I'm taking over my dad's personal min-farm (he passed away last week) ... he has 2 tin trash bins with food for the birds (chickens, hens, geese & ducks). Problem is, I don't know what type/brand etc he was buying and the feed place he bought from closed apparently (2 weeks ago). I'm not having much luck finding a feed place "nearby" with Google. I'm about 45 minutes outside of Spartanburg, SC. Where can I go for feed or what can I put into Google to get results? LOL What do I need to look for in feed for them? I'm assuming there's 2 different bins for 2 different types of food ... but is that b/c different birds need different stuff, or just b/c he would buy it in large bags that 1 bin wouldn't work? Thanks.

Find a feed store or farm supply... There may be a Tractor Supply Co., for example. I get Purina Flock Raiser, all poultry can eat it. There are other brands of all-flock type feeds. Read the labels, ask for help....good luck !

For us, out in the middle of nowhere, a 45 min drive is par for the course. But then, our daughters live in Portland, Or, and we have seen it can easily take an hour or more to go the 20 miles between their houses.

For me ... not a problem. For my aunt that's much older & has no truck (only a car), it's a bit much. She's watching over everything until I can move here. I currently live in VA (military) and can't just quit & move home. :(

I say I'm NEAR Spartanburg b/c it's the closest "city" ... but 45 minutes away. I'm finding that there are a LOT of "local" farm/feed supply stores that Google knows nothing about! I found 2 today that I will check out tomorrow. :)
First off...thanks for your Service and protecting me and my family's butts. :thumbsup

I found that the best Ag Stores are the ones not Googlized! lol Mom & Pop type outfits. I'm very new to chickens, but what I have learned is to feed them high protein (20%) and low calcium (1.3%) and offer oyster shells in a separate feeder. Roosters and young ladies not laying yet shouldn't have calcium. There are some very smart chicken/bird folks on here that I'm sure can help you.

My sincere condolences on the passing of your father...may the great memories you have of him carry you through this most difficult time.:hugs
