How to prepare ground for a coop

I am getting these chickens and this coop in about 5 days. I am wondering how to properly prepare the ground where this coop will go, to make sure it is creditor proof and suitable for the chickens. Im a super newbie. Thanks!

I would think about where you position it on your property. For example if it is on a low spot, then water will gather there and you may have mud problems in future. Also consider things like shade in summer and where your prevailing winds come from. I'd look into your local ordinances/zoning first and be sure you choose a spot that is not too close to the property line or something like that. You probably don't need to do anything special to the ground itself, but to help with predators, once you get the coop, you may want to add an apron around it. Also consider if you feel the coop needs to be anchored in anyway or on any sort of foundation, either due to wind or due to building codes in the area.

@Ladobaze a skirt or apron is fencing attached to the outside of your run that comes out flat along the top of the ground around the perimeter of the run. Generally about 18 inches on all sides should be covered to prevent predators from digging into your enclosure. Over time grass and vegetation should grow up through it and it will not be noticeable.

If rodents are prolific, burying the apron ~12" would be good.
