How to prevent an aggressive cockerel

It's 0 degrees here in the UK. Having watched Asparagus build up to attacking me I know the signs and the new boy is definitely thinking about it. I have a thread on here saying "is my cockerel going to attack me?" a couple of days before he did. I guess the only way I'm going to know for sure is if I just walk past him and see what he does. I would rather he attacked me now then later when I'm attached to him. I don't know why I'm scared of being attacked, Asparagus never hurt me but I just don't like it. I'm not sure how to react if he does. I usually hold my boot up and kick back at him if he goes too far but some people say that is bad but I'm not letting him attack me. His owners agreed to have him back if he became aggressive but i think they will think im making it up because I mentioned aggression all the time.
You need to get rid of this rooster. You're scared of him and in no way confident enough to have him on your place. I can see the anxiety in your posts and I'm sure your flock can feel it when you're out and about. This bird is making you nervous and scared, and there's no reason in the world you need him. Give him back to the owners now. Don't wait for him to make a move on you, just give him back today and enjoy your hens. Don't get a rooster in the future. If you're worried and anxious he's going to attack you, then sure enough he will, I can guarantee it.

I'm going to give him a chance. I'm going to try my best tomorrow not to worry about him and will just walk past him without acknowledging that he is even there. I'm just not sure how to react to anything he does if it its dominant.

Just ignore him. If he comes at you THEN chase him. But otherwise just get on with doing your thing and ignore him as insignificant to you

This, X2.

If you do want to keep him, just don't let him even worry you, it's easy to see signs of aggression when you are already worried about it, even if it's just innocent roo behavior. You are in charge no matter what he thinks right now!

He really is beautiful, I hope you can keep him as part of your flock.

My old Dominique Rooster is a sweet heart, never has tried to attack me, I've always went out with confidence and have never, ever tried to handle him.. When I throw the grain out in the morning he patiently waits because he knows I'll toss his way first so he can dole out to the girls, I've never stopped him from doing his thing with the ladies, just walked on by... We also have a young Rooster, an EE that one of my hens hatched out.. Decided to keep him as we like his coloring, he is a tad different, I know he would love to flog the crap outta me, watches me etc... Last time he did it I just turned around and started walking twords him, forced him to move. .kept telling him he would be fried this evening if he so much as made a move.. I think he understood, has been good as gold ever since ..

I know what a mean rooster feels like, I had one that was downright dangerous and almost took my face off.. I understand your fears.

He looks quite impatient when I go to feed him. But I guess he will just have to wait. I need to remember that everything is on my terms not his.

Exactly, I just walked out to check for eggs, the older roo ignores me but the younger EE walks twords me and then just watches...I'm not saying he wont ever be, but I'll be prepared when he and if he does. I just keep walking, I do not veer from my path and walk with purpose... If he goes for me it will be when my back is turned lol.. Cowards!

The thing is to not allow them to see your fear or hesitation...

I'm just scared incase his spurs/claws go through my jeans! I'm just going to have to risk it because at the minute I dread going to the hens because I'm that worried that he might attack me. If he passes the test of not attacking me when following me to the feed pen with my back turned then I will feel a lot more comfortable being around him!

We go out at night a few times a year and clip spurs...Its super easy, just like clipping a fingernail...

Be aware, animals can sense fear, I am a firm believer in being coop master.. After the disaster with the first rooster I did a lot of reading before getting another many years later.. Personally I am of the belief that if they attack they are dinner , no second chances.. I think the younger rooster senses this
