Also, what you're going to want to do is breed the best of your first generation back to his parent, incubate and hatch the eggs, take the best from that, and then maybe start crossing back and forth between the lines. My poultry gentics are very limited. Any help would be appreciated.

Scenario 1: I have a poorly laced BLR Orpington. To get better lacing and more BLR, would i need to mate the BLR Orpington to a Gold Laced Orpington? Would that give me some better laced BLR Orpingtons?

Secario 2: Starting from scracth; what colors could i use to produce the BLR Orpington?

To get better Blue Lace Reds you really need to outsource a good line of BLR, because if you breed your poor BLR with Gold Laced you will bet better lacing but not true reds, they will be blue laced gold instead!

I'm pretty sure that red is just gold with a mahogany modifier--wouldn't breeding the first generation back fix that problem?

yes, the F1 of such cross will be better laced and with heterozygous mahogany Mh/mh+, I don't recommend backcrossing to the poor BLR, but instead keep the best F1s(the ones that are redder than gold) and cross them back to Gold, be in the look out for the reddish ones(50% will be Mh/mh+ and 50% will be mh+/mh+) take those BC1(back cross to gold) and cross them together to make Mahogany homozygous again

The others have given good advice. However, if you want to produce only BLR you should breed a black laced red over splash laced red hens.
