How to properly candle eggs?

When candling eggs, is it okay to turn the egg with pointy end up? What is the proper way to do this?

This has been my first experience with eggs. I have been incubating indian runner. I candled both ends and the sides of some just to see what I could see. I started with 42 eggs. Some were not fertile at all. When I left today, I had 8 ducklings out of 30 hatch and the hatch date isn't for another day or so.

I move my egg all over when candling. sometimes it can be hard to see inside of them. this is my first time doing it so i don't know if its the proper way. on day 9+10 and every thing seems to be growing ok.
