We got lots of standard size chickens (about 60) and they're large enough that the cats at the colony the lady across the street keeps know to not bother messing with them.

Our dogs are outside for a good portion of the day too, so they also help keep predators at bay.

So for the most part our flock has been safe over the last couple of years.....until Now that the local feed store gave my wife a 'deal' on a box of odds and ends chicks they had leftover from recent orders, four of the chicks are bantams of some sort.

Unfortunately we've only got one rooster (and have to keep it that way), so I'm not sure how effective he can be at protecting 60+ hens.

How do I keep these little birds from becoming cat toys?

My BTW Sasha beat the trash out of our female cat. The cat was stalking her and she put a hurting on that cat who now gives her a wide birth. I have found jb to be sweet yet fiesty little things
