How To Raise A Rooster

Its a shame i have to come back to this thread for some pointers! My 2 roosters have been naughty this week.

Im starting to realize that the Alpha rooster likes his "routine" and if im a little late on either letting them out for the day, or putting their night light on he gets very upset. He starts attacking my boots.

Last night it was 30 minutes past dark and I went out to put them inside. He was outside the shed walking around like a guard dog. As soon as I stepped foot and put their night light on he started attacking my boots again. I picked him up and threw him outside. (to make him feel he lost his place as alpha) Then let him back in, he takes his anger out on the non alpha rooster (his brother)

Then the non alpha rooster flies at my face thankfully I blocked him. Then he was kicked outside for a while. Brining them back in after 5 minutes, i did this for about 20 til they got stopped

Any pointers?

Also I forgot to mention one more thing which was kinda funny. The alpha is a tiny bantom rooster. I have big fat Isa browns who dont respect him they kinda just do whatever they want. They listen to him 60% of the time but wont take any crap from him or his brother.

One of them protects me if the roosters attack. They will bit and pull on their feathers. Luckily the roosters have never attacked the Isas, I think they know better. But last night iit was nice to see one protected me and went after the non alpha when she saw him fly at my face.

Today the non alpha attacked me again, I picked him up. Tugged on the back of his neck feathers and threw him out of the coop area. After 10 minutes of him panicking around the yard, i let him back in. My babygirl Isa hen ran after him and cornered him he was freaking out and scared. The Alpha rooster stepped in and also was getting on the non alpha.

When the Alpha attacked me its because of a routine thing. He also tries to get my 4 year old daughter at her feet. The non alpha just attacks me for no reason. And he is more aggressive.

we have a rir rooster about a year and half. we got him 5 months ago, he has been very good around people but guards the hens very good. about a week ago he started to attack my wife and I while he is out in the yard. he started to attack me one evening I kicked him about 6 feet away , after that he has stayed away from me , but hopefully we can break this behavior.

the rooster we are having a problem with is the one in profile picture.

I have read this whole tread. It has been most helpful ! We will be setting 12 eggs at the end of next wk. I hope to keep a Cockerel out of the hatching. I feel I am a bit more prepared .

I have a small flick of 4. One too, 3 hens. They are a year old now. My too was Tillie but somewhere along the line she had a sex change and became Bill. I worried about keeping him but he's been great so far. He's making bare backs on the hens though. He's pretty active in that way. I recently fenced in more room for them. Money well spent. Anyway, he's only showed an attemp to charge at me once. I just walked forward toward him staring at him and he quit. He charged my husband once too but that was it. I'm hoping he will remain this way. I've gotten attached. I almost got rid of him when I diacovered he was a roo. I purchased four hens at the time.

Chyna you made me giggle when you said your hen had a sex change. My chick whom I thought was a male I called him Mr.Chip. When I realized it was a female I changed his name to Mrs Chip.

My 12.5 week old EE just started acting a little aggressive. He has bitten me a few times and charged me the other night for the first time. Should I chase him or hold him down? I don't want to get rid of him but I have 2 toddler boys. I am also adopting a 2yr old EE roo this week. I was thinking maybe that might be helpful as far as putting my cockerel in his place? Any advice is appreciated.

I have 6 hens currently and 14 12.5 week pullets so at maturity, the 2 roos would have 20 hens to split.

You need to pick him up in front of the hens and embarrass him pick him show them who's boss if you chase him it just makes him meaner
