We had to get rid of our chickens. (had them for 1 yr) I am wanting the grass to grow back. Will it just grow back on its own or do I need to lay seed down. There is layers of poo. Do I need to shovel some of that out? I would love to hear from anyone with experience on this.

I'd rake it out and put down sod or seed. When I moved my coop before grass didn't grow in, only weeds.
Or, you could plant a garden there;-)

If you remove the greater part of the poop turn in the rest and lime the soil then seed it. Don't just dispose of the removed poop start a compost with clippings and food waste. You will get the greatest topsoil ever.

I would lay down seed. If you are going to use it for a garden you should wait a couple of years for the manure to decompose. The raw chicken manure will burn anything planted there. I would lime the soil to loosen it up if you are going to plant.
