how to say goodbye... Gone today, April 10th 2010

You did the right thing,

I'm sure you made the right decision for your beloved Kiwi. Although I'm sure it is devastating to lose her, you swallowed your own personal feelings and allowed her to have a quick and merciful death instead of a long and painful one. Sometimes that is the most compassionate thing we can do for a creature we love very much, as much as it hurts us. Best wishes to you.

I hope you're coping all right.

I had to put down two roosters, Raj and Walowitz. I had four roos total. Raj (buff brahma), Walowitz GL Wyandotte. Two of these roos (at least to Ted and I)were people friendly, but they tore the hens up. The hens (at least 7) are missing feathers around their heads, back feathers are missing on three of them. I didn't want them to kill the hens. BUT they were my pets. The two I kept, one is a Dominique who does the courting dance for the girls, his name is Leonard. Sheldon is a Brown Sex link roo. He tries to attack me from behind every few weeks. He courts the girls too. Leonard *& Sheldon are better to the girls. I will miss my boys..... I tried to kill the first one, I only caused him to become unconscience..... I will have to have a friend kill the next chickens, then I can process them. thanks, Theresa

Thank you everyone...

I hope to get better at this as time goes on - letting them go when their quality of life isn't what it should be (and knowing it never will).

Today, I am losing another girl: a 5 month-old dark brahma pullet named Princess. She's been ill for a few weeks now and I've tried everything, to no avail. She's dying from a mystery ailment. I cannot see her suffer anymore and maybe it's Kiwi sending me courage from the other side, but I find peace in my heart by making the decision to end her suffering today.

I hope my coop isn't cursed, this just sucks
