How to sex chicks?

Help! My hens eggs are hatching and I need help sexing the chicks!

Welcome to BYC! Sexing chicks can be easy or impossible, depending on the breed.

You could try doing a search on this site for your particular breed....

I had really good luck with sexing on about the third day by their feathers. There is a thread on here about how to do it, (search: feather sexing) and it has pictures. I printed them off and used them for reference and we managed to be 100% right on our chicks last spring. So I'd say it's worth a shot!

If I'm correct does capping mean take the air sac off and see if it moves?
