How to spot leg problems in Ducklings??

I have had it develop once in a couple of young black swans. Did not jump on it immediately, and ended up with my vet in surgery....cleaned the condyles out, realigned the tendon, a couple of stitches to help hold it in place, wrapped and kept off leg. Things were looking good, but neighbors dog killed them when I moved them to a small outside brooder to limit activity.

Perosis starts by gradually having the tendon slip. I would increase the cholinr, folic acid, and B12. I would hesitate adding too much of a multi-vitamen to avoid hypervitaminosis of the fat-soluble vitamins. I would manually churck the tendon and keep putting it in place if it moves.

OMG< that's horrible about your neighbors dog killing them. OMG...

The older the bird gets and the more advanced you allow it to get makes it much harder. The black swans were about 3 weeks...started at 2 and I should have aggressively treated it as soon as I saw it.

Storey's guide recommends 100 to 150 mg niacin per gallon of drinking water for several weeks. That's why the PND label frustrates me.
PND? Poultry Nutri Drench? I feel like I barely put any in the water.. does the nutri drench have niacin and all that? No need for anything else?

Another Video. I'm giving them Nutri drench but I'm not sure the problem is correct. One duck seems to be running around fine, its the other that is limping. I also think this one has a swollen hock? (where it meets the body)

I mean she still is using the leg but its off to the side more, so I'm wondering if I need to tape them or anything? Could it just be a bruise? She will walk a couple steps then sit down again. I'm worried she is putting the leg off to the side and it could effect growth..

I would use a combination of Epsom salt compresses, a tiny dab of Traumeel worked well into the joint, and a hobble to maintain proper spacing of the legs. And closely supervised floating in the warm water time.

It is possible there is an infection - a good vet could help sorting this out - I know it's not always manageable.

Could it just be an injury from falling off the sofa? I'd go with what Amiga is recc. warm ES soaks or compresses [no drinking the water] and the Traumeel or some other kind of herbal to help with healing and bring down inflammation.
