I have two hens who have been broody for around a month now... Today there was another hen in there acting broody as well! they are taking up all the room for my other hens to lay. What are some things that I can do to stop the broodiness? I collect the eggs about every couple of hours. If any of the broody hens are in the nests I take them out, but in a couple of minutes, they are right back in! I do have 4 rocks shaped like eggs in the boxes because I have a couple of new hens and to prevent any egg eating going on. Please help me!! Thanks

It is just a natural state. They feel the need to hatch eggs. I never distrib mine and give them eggs to hatch. In the future try to get breeds that don't go broody like a Rhode Island Red or Leghorn.
Wynadottes, EE's, Orpingtons and Marans are all broody breeds - I even have a rhode island white thats sitting on a bunch eggs.

The only surefire way to cure a broody is to let her hatch eggs :p. Some people swear by putting them in wire cages and blowing a fan under them all day, but there's no real guarentee there.

nothing worked for me, until I blocked them mine from the nesting boxes.day and night. mine had 2 eggs and she raised 2 chicks, 3 weeks later she started to lay and on the fourth week went broody. 5 weeks later and she is coming out of it, only because I blocked her finally from the boxes and made her stay out all day. when she could not get in the nest box at night she drove all my hens batty with her pecking and screaming. I had to cage her at night and keep her out of the pen and coop all day, it took me 3 days and she is now fine. she drives me nuts. she broods non stop.
I will be doing the same thing again, blocking her from the boxes day and night and penning her up at night so she does not bother the rest of the chickens when she goes broody again.. she was so bad she would not let them in my large coop or go near the nest boxes. a real poop she is. but in march I plan to set her again with a few eggs to keep my flock young and laying.

I would let her hatch as many eggs as he wanted but I don't have a rooster... I know my poor girls, lol
