After about 2.5 hours. This is our progress. I went through all her commands while with the chicken. Sit, lay down, shake, ect. And I did have her cabelas shock caller on just in case anything went out of hand. I will be doing this everyday after school until I feel she's done killing. I even took the goats on a walk today and they played. Not anything rough but they did very well.

First, I LOVE how big your chicken run is and the structure of it!:)

Secondly, that is so awesome!!! Keep up the good work!! :) Hope it works out for you!!

Your dog is gorgeous btw!!

The run is a nice size, but it's never going to hold up to attacks against dogs (or other larger predators) as constructed... The chicken wire won't stop much, and it looks like it can easily be dug under for starters...

Even if you get the dog under control you might very well face another predator gaining entry...

Good for you for working with the dog! You do have a nice setup, but I would get some welded wire to put over the chicken wire. Any semi-determined predator - dog, fox, coyote, raccoon - can tear chicken wire wide open. Not trying to scare you or be critical. That is a nice run you've got there.

Next week I am off for 2 weeks and am adding some metal cloth to it as a second layer. Thanks everyone for all the help. It really is greatly appreciated! I'll be busy no doubt but it'll be very worth it!

honestly once a dog tastes the blood of an animal it will always hunt that type of animal. My friends dog had to be put down after it chased kangaroo's and kill it in front of a ranger three times.

Not in my experience. I feed my dog a raw diet composed primarily of chicken quarters.I also give him freshly killed cull birds from time to time. He leaves the live birds alone. I believe it's the psychological act of unrestrained hunting and killing that keeps them coming back. Once this behavior is set,it's all over

I have 3 goldens and they will run right through the flock to chase a yote. From the start I have set the rules and the big one is they are NEVER allowed to chase a chicken, turkey or our one mousing cat. You pup looks pretty young. Goldens brains don't start working right until 2-2 1/2 years old. He will need severe scolding any time he starts for a bird. Please don't allow him around your flock without supervision until you know for sure he has figured it out. And I agree with your decision to predator proof your run. Tough job for you but worth it. Good luck and let us know how it goes.;)

Jut a quick note from me regarding chicken run construction. I put "no climb" fencing around my run and put chicken wire over it to keep predators from getting into the coop/run. So far so good. The top of the perimeter fence is electrified and the fencing wire is grounded. This produces a significant shock to a predator if/when it tries to jump the fence. My fingers are crossed for no further incidents with coyotes. Thanks for reading.
