Today I have a funny, sad, exciting story. I headed out to the duck coop no less them 20 min ago to air it out for a bit. I herd something crack under my feet. I shuffled in the straw to find a cracked duck egg!!!!!!!!!!! I am so happy right now my fingers can hardly type!!!:frow:ya:ya:ya:ya:ya:ya:ya:woot:woot:woot:woot:woot:woot:love:love:love:love:love:love:love:love:celebrate:celebrate:celebrate:celebrate:celebrate:celebrate:celebrate:celebrate Anyway.....I ran inside to show my family(cuz we always need someone else to share that joyful moment with)! I went back to the duck house to see if there were more........I found 4 more duck eggs!!!!!! I cracked them all open to see if they were fertile and I am sure they were(I will attach some photos later). I would really like to just be able to find the eggs instead of having to dig in the straw for them. What are some tips??? I know they will bury them to protect the egg or when they go for a swim. I am not planing to eat them for a while....I have no idea when these were even laid. I am also hopefully going to head to TSC to get some oyster shell. If you guys have a a little child(duck) of yours lay and egg then you should know what I am feeling right now!!!! Thanks tons!!!!

I have 3 ducks currently laying. I built a kind of nesting box for them to hopefully lay in. I took a couple chicken eggs, wrote a C on them and put them in the new “nest” to hopefully give them the idea it’s a good place to lay.

They were climbing under a duck house, and going behind another before to lay. I’ll know if it’s working in the next week I imagine.

So maybe take note of where they’re laying, and put a bin with bedding in that spot.

Please eat them. Don't waste. If you collect every day it doesn't matter if they are fertile. Unless you want to raise lings. They are so delicious. My girls often bury their eggs. I just dig around every morning. Deviled eggs, pickled eggs, scrambled eggs, poached eggs, fried eggs, life is like a box of chocolates.....

They’re massive! I thought they were pretty darn big for a duck egg, so I cracked open one that I found already cracked when we discovered it and found a double yolker. None of the others are laying doubles, so I think it’s just what she’s doing as a beginner.
