How to STOP hens from laying??

I fed my eggs back to my hens after I wormed them. Seemed like such a waste otherwise! I'm not planning on worming often, so I'm not worried about the possibility of them getting resistant to the wormer.

I did find a cute thing to do with your eggs if you like crafts. Make some Christmas ornaments!

I'm making these for little Christmas gifts because everyone makes fun of me for being chicken obsessed now! So I'm adding fuel to that fire! lol!

I think these are so pretty and a good way to use up your eggs if you have too many. I'm using the eggs I blow out for scrambling and baking, so nothing is going to waste at our house!

You could also decorate these Easter themed for next spring.

You might feed them a large portion of scratch grains every day or even substitute it entirely for the 10 days. More carbs to stay warm and less protein will lower egg production of any chicken. I would not ease up on the calcium either. Last thing you want is for the eggs they are producing to rob calcium from their bones.

Your "problem" is one that half of the posters on this forum would love to have. Apparently you have gotten a flock of layers that are in their prime of life. All of the sex-links are bodacious layers most of the time all seasons excepting molt.

I do not practice lighting to increase laying, instead letting nature take it's course and allowing the rest for their bodies that God designed in when He made them. My 6 mo old flock of 24 chooks lay from 15-18 eggs daily on a 10 1/2 hr day as is. I have one runt that I know is not laying for sure.

I asked this question a while back after treating and I waited 3 days then took every egg laid-blew them out ( to keep shells for decorations) and cooked every egg back to them- Not only did they love but it has been 3 months since I did it and not a problem whatsoever-I was getting 15+ eggs a day-The temps are COLD here 18 below yesterday-so all the eggs I didnt sell either eating eggs and fertile shipping eggs-again blowing them all out and making huge omelettes for them. This was all based on BYC advice majority ruled and thats what I did. :)
