How to tame a pet duck?

Rofl! love how you made the best of the situation instead of throwing out the worms. Ducks don't like worms? Well then just raise them so they can have little worm babies, haha!

Hehe, It must be the only way I can somehow feel like mayyyybe I'm still really in control of the house... The animals have NOT taken over and are NOT dictating what happens...no....not at all! I WANTED to raise mealworms in the first place...I'm sure of it..erm.. haha

Mine go nuts over frozen peas and water melon. Feeder fish from the pet shop are always a hit too.

I can't wait to try feeder fish, but I'm going to wait until spring. I don't think the fishies would do so well with the sinking heater in the pool. I feel like they would burn themselves on the heater element. Or, who knows, maybe the ducks would enjoy some roast fish ;]

I tried feeder fish in the summer - ducks LOVED chasing them around the pool they have....but I ended up feeling so bad for the fish, I took them all back out (except for the one 'slow swimmer' that got caught quickly) and put them in the koi pond (where they are doing well!)

I'm such a softie - sad huh?

Cheers'!

I've found figuring out what their favourite food is helps tremendously

For ours it is peas. Actually, they pretty much wont eat any snacks now except for peas. We've had ours for 6 months and it is only now that they are starting to really approach us.....but only if..... you guessed it - we have peas. haha
Thanks Jen1979!
I must try the peas!! Mine love lettuce but they show 2 different (funny) behaviors towards it.
Behavior 1: I feed them lettuce in their pen, they do not eat from my hand- they simply wait till I throw it close to them. If i try throwing it closer to me, they do not go past 3-4 ft away from me. This is an everyday normal.

Behavior 2: I took them out to roam around in the backyard for the first time last weekend, while I was making breakfast inside (watching them thru the glass door). They immediately went to the glass sliding door and stood there looking at us in the kitchen. I knew they could see us because I'd come up to the glass and they'd look up at me. It looked like they were asking for food so I opened the sliding door and stuck my hand out with some lettuce. They didn't run away, instead they came closer and started eating lettuce from my hand!! What?!?! I was 2 inches away from them and that was totally acceptable to them.

...and when I'm in the pen trying to feed them lettuce they don't come anywhere near me no matter how long i sit there holding it! Later I opened the sliding door even more that they could see half of me and they still never ran away. Whats with that???? I thought their fear of people had been conquered but no...same story repeats in the pen.

I put mine in a large bowl instead of their pool. I tried to put them in the pool and my pekins never figured out that they were in there.
I gave my ducks a pool, but they can't figure out what it is....they just come up and drink out of it.... *face palm* lol. I threw lettuce in there and they just walk around or stand on the edge and reach in for that lettuce. Are my ducks scared of water?? LOL

my guys love peas and corn, I think they would follow me to the end of the world. when I pull up the drive way, here they come running and flying so funny.
