I searched the net for this very thing and couldn't seen to find anything with pics, thank you for taking the time to post. Very informative.

When my neighbor complained that the egg yolks were not as dark (it's cold, and the girls are inside a lot) I fed them some cracked corn & the color came right back.

Thanks for the post, I can't wait to go home and crack open some silkie eggs to see if I can tell if they are fertile or not...

Thanks for this post! I just asked someone this morning how to tell fertility. I'm glad to be sure now, but bummed the 2 I had for breakfast this morning were fertile. UGH! I guess that old rooster is doing what he's suppose to be doing now that he's got another, younger one in there as competition?

I'm not sure if the reference where the first three pics came from got lost-I know I put it somewhere on this post or another post, but cant find it. So you can have the detailed explanation of what you're seeing, here is the site they came from:

The egg pictured on page 3 of this thread did come from one of my own hens.

After reading this thread, I was so curious that I went out to the chicken house to see if I had any eggs. I just had to check one out to see if it was fertile!!!
I didn't think Roody was old enuf to fetilize the eggs, but check this out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
