Hello.I am new to chickens From 12 eggs only one chicks I have 7 hens and 2 roo What I am doing wrong?

I have found this thread (especially the pictures) very helpful. I've been cracking open my silkie's eggs for months to try to determine if they are fertile. The boy (8 months old) has been trying for a while but my silkie hen hasn't been very submissive. My laying silkie is 10 months old and has been laying eggs for 3 months.

Anyway, could you all study this egg and tell me if you think it is fertile or not? It "looks" like the target, but I'm not sure if it's just wishful thinking on my part!

These pictures are of the same egg....just a different camera setting and angle. Thank you - I really appreciate the input of those more experienced than me.

And, the same egg a little closer:

Two of our girls just started laying and I was looking up the blood spot I found in an egg that I cracked because I thought that was a sign of fertilization and I came across this thread. After examining my eggs when I cracked them open I am questioning this mark on this egg. After reading through the thread I would guess fertilized but I am almost 100% certain we do not have a roo in our flock, BUT???

What do you think?

signs that you have a rooster in your flock:

crowing
mating
chicken dancing around other chickens

that sums it up, also some rooster knowledge will help to spot a roo and a hen.

or put those eggs under a hen,if they hatch, you know you have a roo because infertile eggs dont hatch.

I would say the egg is infertile because you cracked it open to examine it.
