My polish was injured four days ago after being chased by a dog. The dog didn't bit her, just stomped on her. At first she only laid on her side and kicked her legs occasionally. She wouldn't eat or drink. Now she's at least drinking but I have to spoon feed her electrolyte drink and she does not want to eat unless I really work at it. As far as her injuries go, I don't feel any obvious deformity and she doesn't squawk when I manipulate her, but she is still only just sitting there and scoots backwards in her cage (I put her in a little cage so I could keep close eye on her). I've tried to clean her but she still smells because of her waste. Her legs stick straight out. My question is this; how will I know if my attempts to save her are futile? I've nursed a chicken back from a broken leg before and a couple more after getting tangled with the dog and they all showed more interest in eating and drinking after about a day or so. I'm pragmatic; I'd rather allow nature to take its course than delay the inevitable by nursing it along like this. I don't want to spend time helping this chicken if it's only going to die anyway. I do have access to x-ray and plan on getting her x-rayed later today. Any thoughts would be helpful. Thanks!

There is no obvious injury. She just backs herself into a corner and doesn't stand on her legs. She's drinking now and I even think she wants to eat because she seems to be scratching around. The only issue is she twists her neck when offered something do drink. It takes a while for her twisting to settle down. Am I right to think it's a vitamin deficiency?
