I’ve seen a question or two about frozen eggs. Someone said frozen eggs crack. Since a picture is worth a thousand words, I thought I’d share what I found this afternoon. For context, we were down to 0*F last night and up to 25* today. I check for eggs w/morning and evening feeds and mid-day-ish when it is cold. I must have missed this one on a check. Or the girlie responsible deposited right after I left; and made sure it rolled to the outer wall of the nestbox.

I didn’t take a picture of another one I collected this afternoon that was cracked at one end from being kicked around the nest. The break on that one did not breach the inner membrane and the crack was spider-webbed rather than a single split. (The dog thought it was quite a happy accident.)

Here's mine from earlier. I think the thicker membrane in duck eggs like this one, helps prevent the contents from leaking out. After it thawed, the cracks are now barely noticeable. This would be great but I sell at farmers markets, so I'll be candling dozens of eggs this afternoon, and my dog and I have omelets on the dinner menu.
